The name “Fernandina Beach” refers not only to the downtown city on the island and its historic district. It’s also the post office designation for neighborhoods beyond the downtown as well as over the bridge leading to the mainland. The term is sometimes used interchangeably with “Amelia Island.”

Just beyond Fernandina Beach is the growing area of Yulee with historical communities as well as new subdivisions in the midst of Florida’s Low Country. A master-planned community set on 24,000 acres, Wildlight is one of the newest. Yulee is also home to White Oak Conservation Center, a premiere wildlife breeding research facility on 6800 acres of forest & wetlands.

So whether it’s sinking your toes in the sand, fishing for the best catch, kayaking the salt marshes or setting sail from the marina, Amelia Island’s waters hold endless delights.

While Amelia Island is synonymous with Fernandina Beach, the city downtown is also called Fernandina and it is home to a lovely historic district, excellent restaurants, galleries & boutiques. And Amelia’s vibrant business community extends out from downtown to many areas of the island. One of my favorite places downtown is Amelia Island Coffee where you can enjoy a delicious breakfast and other tasty treats throughout the day.
